  5. ARTISOFT, INC. ANNOUNCES SALES AND EARNINGS FOR THE FIRST
  6. QUARTER OF FISCAL 1993

  8. (TUCSON, AZ -- October 12, 1992) -- Artisoft, 
  9. Inc. announced today net sales of $22.1 million and net
  10. earnings of $3.6 million, or $0.20 per share, for the first
  11. quarter of fiscal 1993 ended September 30, 1992, compared
  12. to net sales of $14.5 million and net earnings of $2.2
  13. million, or $0.15 per share, for the same quarter of the
  14. previous fiscal year. This represents an increase of 52.8%
  15. in sales and 61.6% in net earnings over the September 30,
  16. 1991 quarter.

  18. C. John Schoof II, Chairman of the Board, President and
  19. Chief Executive Officer, stated, "During the first fiscal
  20. quarter, Artisoft sales continued strong in our domestic
  21. markets, fueled by increasing orders for the LANtastic(R)
  22. networking family of products. While seasonal softness in
  23. Europe contributed to weak international revenue, this was
  24. offset by growth in the domestic market. During the
  25. quarter, Artisoft took steps to expand its European
  26. distribution channel by restructuring it to more closely
  27. reflect the non-exclusive channel structure in the U.S.
  28. International sales represented 21.5% of net sales for the
  29. quarter compared to 26.5% for the entire fiscal year of
  30. 1992.

  33. introduced late in the quarter, particularly the NetMediaTM
  34. Starter Kit, LANtastic(R) for Macintosh(R) and the
  35. Etherbasket(TM) Multi-Pack. Much of the quarter-to-quarter
  36. increase in accounts receivable was attributable to the
  37. timing of shipments of these new products.

  40. because of the previously announced expansion programs
  41. underway in Europe, the Pacific Rim and Latin America,
  42. increased advertising and promotion expenses, and the
  43. hiring of additional sales and marketing and engineering
  44. personnel, all to support the growth of our revenue and
  45. product line."
